Fashion designer Aoife McNamara’s top styling tips for summer to look and feel great
May has arrived and that means the summer season is officially underway.
For the first time since 2019, we can enjoy a normal summer as we learn to live with Covid.
With nights out, special occasions and holidays abroad all on the horizon, now is the time to get in the summer spirit – and what better way to do this than by updating your wardrobe?

As temperatures are expected to rise over the coming weeks, we can look forward to wearing lighter clothes and having more fun with fashion this summer.
But what are the trends to keep an eye out for over the coming months?
According to fashionista Aoife McNamara, party dresses will be making a big comeback.
“Shortcut, bright and colourful dresses are really pretty and fun to wear, and will be big this summer as everyone is so excited to get dressed up again,” the Limerick fashion designer tells RSVP Live.
“I’m also really into big bow features, which is a classic feature of mine since I’ve started designing.
“This summer, it’s all about clothes you want to have a party in.”
It is often said when it comes to fashion that black is the most flattering colour you can wear and can help you look slimmer.
But with summer on the horizon, Aoife has debunked this myth and thinks people should embrace colour, especially when the sun is shining.
The key to finding clothes to compliment your figure actually has nothing to do with the colour, but rather the cut.
Aoife explains: “I think it’s all about the cut of the garment when it comes to enhancing the silhouette of the body. It’s all about embracing colour.
“I know some people don’t like to be out there, and that’s totally fine, they prefer to have muted tones and not be centre stage. But this summer people want to have fun again so I wouldn’t shy away from colours.”
Wearing bright colours not only helps you to look good, but to feel great as well.
Aoife continues: “If someone walks into the room with colour they always inject happiness.
“I think people should give it a go, sometimes they might think they hate it, but until they try it they never know and they might end up loving it.”
If you’ve been struggling to find the right clothes to suit you while shopping lately, you’re not alone.
Many people are struggling to re-establish their personal sense of style after lockdown, but thankfully Aoife has the perfect solution.
The universal design that suits everyone regardless of body shape, size or age, is a good quality loose fitting blouse.
“You can tuck it in, wear it out, dress it up or dress it down. It literally looks great on everyone,” she said.
The Go to Girl, a top from Aoife’s best selling clothing line, ticks all of these boxes.
“It’s a loose top and sleeveless, but fits beautifully over that annoying part of your arm just under your armpit and features a lovely flowing silk for comfort.”
Aoife’s brand new collection ‘Enchanted By Nature, In a Disenchanted World’ is exclusively available on aoifemacnamara.com .
